Identity juggling: a study of into elite female athletes’ negotiation and development of identities within disability sport

The London 2012 Paralympic games have been a showcase for the contemporary nature of disability sport and ostensibly suggest a growth of public interest within this field. However, there has been limited research to date conducted into the experiences of physically impaired, female athletes at elite-level. Moreover, this has failed to address how individuals negotiate their identities within the interplay of gender, ‘disability’, and social/cultural influences.

Established in 2005 under the auspices of the UK Political Studies Association, this study group provides opportunities for discussion, debate and research on sport politics.

This 7th Annual conference is hosted by the Physical Cultural Studies Research Group (@pcsbath) at the University of Bath. The theme for the 2013 conference is Sport, Policy & Politics.

The conference will to foster the development of academic research on sport politics within political studies/science, and political aspects of sport in related fields and disciplines.
